BIOGRAPHY

Sonali Smith, MD, FASCO, is a board-certified hematology and medical oncology physician, Professor, the Elwood V. Jensen Professor of Medicine, and Chief of the Section of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr Smith serves in multiple leadership roles including as Co-Director of the Cancer Service Line at the University of Chicago, Vice Chair of the Lymphoma Committee at the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), Co-Chair of the International Ultmann Chicago Lymphoma Symposium, and Chair of the Career Development and Engagement Subcommittee at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). She serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) and the Lymphoma Steering Committee for the National Cancer Institute. She is Associate Editor of Haematologica, an Editorial Board member for Annals of Lymphoma and Cancer, and an editorial reviewer for at least 15 peer-reviewed journals. Dr Smith is the recipient of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Education Award given by the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine (2017).

She has authored or coauthored at least 177 peer-reviewed journal articles and at least 13 book chapters. Dr Smith is a member of ASCO, the American Society of Hematology, SWOG, LRF, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. Her clinical research focus includes all types of Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, with a special interest in new agents for lymphoma and in stem cell transplantation and its role in improving the survival of patients with relapsed lymphomas.
